Bye, Felicia

Earlier this week (Thursday) I had another Gallbladder Attack.  As most of you should know who read this blog, while pregnant with Lucy I started getting them big time.  The nurses L&D knew me by first name.  One even memorised how tall I was in cm.  As soon as they saw me, they started prepping for Gallbladder issues.  When I went to get induced, the nurses assumed I was there because of a Gallbladder Attack.  When I told them I was getting induced one clapped a little and said, "Finally! Be sure to get that thing out honey!"

Seriously.  I was in the hospital so frequently with attacks.  We probably paid for another parking lot addition with all the parking fees they gauged us with. (Thanks Royal Alex - seriously though, how is it okay to charge for parking at a Hospital?)

There were some good things that came out of them though.  I overcame my fear of getting an I.V.  I also got over my belief that vomiting under any circumstance must be avoided even to the point of feeling sicker.  I also didn't have to pay for a hospital tour.  We knew our way around.

Since Lucy joined us on the outside, I still get them.  Thursday's attack was the worst!  I even had to call Mike at work so he could come take me to the hospital.  I'm so grateful that his school let him go early so he could take me.  Thankfully, I got in really fast.  I guess having a crying woman rocking back in forth in pain rushes things along.

After a few hours being hooked up to an I.V., rushed blood work and yet another ultrasound I was sent on my way with another prescription for T3s and a promise to come in whenever I get an attack.  As if that's doable when you a) don't always have access to a car during the week, b) have a two month old and c) enjoy hanging out in a hospital.

Unfortunately, Gallbladder attacks can't really be avoided.  ER doctors have told me, however, if I try to eliminate fats from my diet I won't get them (cute - I still get them and reducing ALL fats from your diet isn't really feasible).  Regardless, I (Mike is also participating for support) am going to try to eliminate fats and any food that's caused an attack previously.  To be fair, I started doing this as soon as I starting getting Gallbladder Attacks.  I've added a few more rules:

- No fast food or takeout (I'm looking at you Subway).
- Low fat (take that Gallbladder!).
- Lots of veggies and fruit
- Proper portion sizes
- Meats sparingly
- Exercising a minimum of 30 minutes everyday

Boy, do I miss brownies, but if being a stickler to these rules helps me avoid trips to the hospital until I can have surgery I'm down.

Here's to hoping this helps with the whole Gallbladder situation!  I'm seriously tired of worrying about getting another attack and ending up in the hospital.  I have an appointment with a surgeon on Wednesday and I'm hoping he'll help a sister out.  This Gallbladder has GOT to go.

Bye, Felicia.

Until next time,
